Check Out Our Flower Pics!

Last month, I hosted my first-ever Wildflower Photography Workshop.

I've been photographing the world around me since I got my first little red film camera at 4 years old. In high school, I learned how to process my own film. I also got into concert photography, and obtained many different press passes in college to shoot some of my favorite bands from the pit. I was the lead photo editor for my college newspaper, the Eckerd Current and I finally took my first formal digital photography class during my junior year of college.

I've worked my way through many different camera models over the years, from a 1930's Agfa accordion film camera, to my dad's old Minolta 35mm, to my new favorite field camera, the Olympus TG 6.

My photos have been published in numerous newspapers, books, and websites, and is even featured in some museum exhibits. But teaching others about photography is still pretty new to me! As someone with a lot of experience but not much formal training, I never considered myself qualified to actually teach photography. I am learning now that it's more important to be able to make learning fun and explain things clearly.

I'm excited to report that the workshop was a success. We explored a variety of techniques, experimented with new perspectives, learned the ins and outs of our phone cameras, and even got into the nitty-gritty of manual settings, light, and color theory. (Oh, and the wildflowers were GORGEOUS subjects and cooperative muses!)

Below are some of the coolest shots some of us captured during the workshop. It was a nice exercise in slowing down, noticing nature's details, and approaching the world around us with an artful eye.

Thanks to everyone who shared their photos with me for this gallery! Click on any image below to see it full-size. Enjoy!
