One weekend in April, for the last nine years, nature lovers like you and me have taken to the streets (and trails) to document wildlife in their cities for the City Nature Challenge — the world's largest community science event, ever.
This year's 10th annual event, hosted by the iNaturalist website, wrapped up last week with roughly 107,000 people submitting more than 3.2 MILLION observations around the world. That's a lotta nature pics!
How did San Diego County stack up? We tallied nearly 1,200 participants who made more than 30,000 observations of 2,839 species. In! Four! Days! Overall, we ranked 21st in the world.
Congratulations on another year of making sure our wildlife is noticed and documented. With global biodiversity dwindling year after year, it has never been more important to know who we share our planet with, and who we risk losing.
