Pictured above is a wreath I made last week, with cuttings from the Point Loma Native Plant Garden. I am in love with it, not because it turned out looking pretty good, but because it proves just how festive our SoCal environment can be. Plus, it smells amazing!
The San Diego River Park Foundation, which manages the Garden, is hosting a native plant wreath-making event on December 22nd. If you want to make your own locally sourced, plastic free, organic, non-GMO holiday wreath, sign yourself up for their free event—space is limited!
If you're curious to learn about more of San Diego's festive plants and animals, and you don't mind a little profanity, adult humor, and pop-culture references, check out my recent Nerd Nite talk: Species That Sleigh on YouTube.
Nerd Nite is a bi-monthly 21+ event hosted at the Kensington Club where scientists, artists, and other experts give fun (but factual) talks about their work. If sipping drinks while learning about science sounds like fun to you, check out the next Nerd Nite happening in February.
There's lots to do this time of year. I hope that smelling some sage, marveling at king tides, or enjoying the peaceful silence of the wilderness in winter are on your to-do list too.
